Also included on our second day in Saint Petersburg was a walking tour of a portion of the elaborate gardens and fountains of Peterhof, the coastal summer residence of Russian Emperors, and Peter the Great’s favorite. Shown above is the Great Palace of Peterhof and The Upper Gardens, which stretch across the south facade of the summer residence. The Great Palace is anchored on each end by cupola-topped structures; the western building is the Coat of Arms Wing, and the eastern building the Apostles Peter and Paul Chapel, in front of which visitors first enter the grounds of the Park.
